NIPAWIN — A date has been set for a byelection to fill an empty spot on council.
The town will begin accepting applications for nominations beginning on Jan. 30, and the byelection itself will take place on April 3.
Applications for nominations will not be accepted or handled until the Jan. 30 start date.
The role was previously filled by Ismael Aliguyon, who had resigned from Nipawin council in October.
“It’s a very sad day for me and a very difficult decision,” Aliguyon wrote to the council in a letter read at Oct. 11’s council meeting. “After considerable thought it is my sincere regret. The biggest factor for my decision is the time commitment with the nature of my full time job. I’m on the road and away from home sometimes and this makes me think that carrying out duties as a councillor set aside at times thus these instances I felt it wasn’t fair to other councillors.”
