It may have been a short June 27 city council meeting but that just meant many decisions for counsellors to get through.
The meeting started with Murray Stevens from the Humboldt Golf Club speaking with council about assistance with course renovations.
The club is wanting to deal with some water flow issues through the course, particularly hole 2, mentioned Stevens.
The city has agreed to work with the golf club on resolving some of these issues in a joint meeting between the two organizations.
Council also approved a visit from the Rolling Barrage, a motorcycle group of retired RCMP and military members who raise awareness about PTSD with a coast-to-coast tour.
Their usual route is a drive from Regina to Saskatoon but this year, the group wanted to include a special stop in Humboldt to honour the Humboldt Broncos.
Also included in the visit is a fly by by the Snowbirds. Both visits were approved by the council during the meeting.
Council also went through six recommendations from their June 18 executive committee meeting.
This included a review of the Uniplex concession operations. Come the 2018-2019 season, changes will be implemented to “improve the fiscal conditions,” said the executive report, including cuts to staffing, review of menu, increased prices, and a review of the hot lunch program.
Council also made changes to arena rates with slight increases to rental rates for the ice surface, covering ice rates, off season rentals, public admission rates, and curling rink rentals.
During meeting inquires, Director of Community and Leisure Services Mike Ulriksen also gave an update on the new practice field at Centennial Park.
Crews were out last week to lay down the new sod with city crews also implementing the new watering system using grey water from the reservoir behind Canadian Tire.
During the June 13 Mayor’s Breakfast, Mayor Rob Muench said this is a system that Saskatoon is just starting to discuss implementing for parks around the city.
Council was proud to implement the water saving system first. Ulriksen credits this to Director of Public Works, Peter Bergquist, and his team.
Council continues during the summer months with a council meeting on July 23 and August 27. Council will return to their second and fourth Monday of the month schedule come September.
