The Village of Denholm celebrated a 100th birthday of incorporation as a village June 29 to July 1, with 277 registered guests attending with many more dropping in throughout the afternoon.

The registered guest attending from the furthest distance was from Moscow, Russia.

The reunion started Friday evening with registration and meeting old friends. Saturday morning began with a 16-entry parade with Ivan White doing the announcing.

Opening ceremony remarks and greetings were given by Mayor Donna Oborowsky and committee chairperson Linda Welch, with Donna cutting the birthday cake. Local musical entertainers were much enjoyed throughout the afternoon.

Also throughout the afternoon, a bounce castle entertained the children while the adults visited old friends in the community hall and beer garden. Many were seen touring the village looking at pictorial signs that depicted where businesses used to be located. Others took the time to go up to the cemetery to pay their respects and to have a look at the 48 newly posted crosses with names to mark previous unmarked gravesites.

A display room with old pictures, homestead records, the village's first bylaws from 1912 and council tidbits from 1926 to present were a big hit for a steady line up of people strolling down memory lane. The souvenir table was kept busy selling hats, clocks and photo albums, which still can be purchased through a committee member.

A catered supper and dance followed and the day was topped off with a fireworks display donated by the family of the late Mayor Terry Welch in his memory.

Sunday morning a non-denominational church service was officiated by Mr. and Mrs. Lacey. To end the festivities, a delicious pancake breakfast was served to a huge crowd.

The committee expresses thanks to all the committee members, volunteers and corporation donors.
