The 11th annual Boys and Girls Club Gala Dinner and Auction, which took place Nov. 10 at the Gold Ridge Centre raised $54,000 for the organization.

The funds will go towards a new building on their current lot.

The money was raised through a combination of auction, ticket and raffle sales. All auction items were donated by either local businesses or community members, and the silent and live auction together accounted for $32,000 of the total sum raised.

The gala dinner also saw the second annual presentation of the Friends of the Battlefords Boys and Girls Club award. Established in 2010, the award is given to a community member who contributes to the organization not just financially, but also with their time and energy. Last year's winner was Darren Manegre, and this year saw the award going to Bill Ironstand.

Ironstand has been volunteering his time every week to the Battlefords Outdoor Hockey League since 1999. The league was established to give those unable to play hockey in one of the other leagues, for financial or other reasons, an opportunity to play hockey in a league setting.
