The City has announced that North Battleford Fire Department will test the flow of fire hydrants starting July 11 in the neighborhoods of Killdeer Park, Fairview Heights, College Heights and Deanscroft.
However, there is a likely side effect — discolored water.
Residents and businesses within the testing areas may experience this and they are being advised to let the water flow until it runs clear. The Ccity says the water, though discoloured, will not be harmful and it will gradually clear up.
North Battleford Fire Department and the City are thanking residents and businesses for their patience and co-operation.
Annual hydrant testing is required by the National Fire Protection Association and by underwriters throughout Canada.
“It is important to test all fire hydrants to determine what their capabilities would be in an emergency,” Fire Chief Albert Headrick said in a release. “Testing can also uncover any hydrant mechanical problems.”
