The Humboldt SPCA held its fourth annual Dog Days in the Park on Aug. 15, where dogs of all breeds and ages (and their humans) came out to Water Ridge Park to socialize with other dogs and dog owners.

“Anybody’s dog can come and do it,” said Kathleen Forster, the president of the Humboldt SPCA’s board. “It’s just a fun day in the park for the dogs and it’s a fundraiser for the SPCA.”

There was a BBQ and a registration fee to raise that money.

The Animal Health Clinic of Humboldt put on an agility course for the dogs – some liked doing it while others were wary of some of the obstacles. There were also competitions for the dogs, such as most beautiful, most handsome, and best dressed.

The SPCA is still fundraising for a new building. The wish list includes viewing rooms, a washing area, a store, and an in-house groomer.

“We’re still trying to get that new building up. It’s needed,” Forster said. “We have to turn dogs and cats away because we don’t have space and it would be nice to be in a building bigger so we can take more animals in to find their forever homes.”

For Forster, Dog Days are an ongoing effort to make that dream come true.

“This is our fourth year and we’d love to keep it going,” Forster said. “We hope that people enjoy the day. It’s a great way for dogs to socialize with other dogs in the park.”
