The City of North Battleford calls it a disgusting eyesore that can also be a detriment to health.

They are referring to doggie-do. The City's special constables are urging local pet owners to take note and to clean up after their pets in parks, yards and walking trails.

Failure to immediately do so would run contrary to bylaw No. 1888, the Animal Protection Bylaw.

City Special Constable Ross MacAngus noted in a news release that dog feces "does sometimes contain dangerous parasites."

"We haven't had any case, but many dogs do carry intestinal parasites that can survive in abandoned dog feces for a long time. We don't want anyone getting sick."

Failure to immediately remove an animal's excrement from the public or private property other than the property of its owners carries a $50 fine for the first offence and goes up to $100 and $200 for second and third offences.

Pet owners are liable for the actions and behaviour of their dogs at all times and MacIsaac warns against letting dogs run at large in public areas, except in the off-leash park. Special constables can demand ID from dog owners and ensure compliance with all bylaws.
