Quilting enthusiasts can check out a variety of different items and techniques on display at the Humboldt and District Museum. All the pieces came out of the recent Saskatchewan Stitches Conference which took place in Muenster and was organized by Haus of Stitches. Not only are there quilts on display, but there are also other knitted items, bags, clothes, and even a bra.
“With having that great quilting tradition … it’s a really thriving art form in Humboldt and being able to see it taken to the next step and treated in a very artistic way is kind of innovative and interesting for people to see,” said Jean Price with the museum.
The pieces are art, but Price said they fit more in the museum rather than the gallery.
“I think this one speaks more to the change in a traditional craft,” she said. “Although it is extremely beautiful and (the artists are) extremely talented and we could have put it in the gallery, it does tie in really well with the history of Humboldt being such a big quilting community, so we have it in the museum,” she said.
The pieces come from Saskatchewan and beyond, as the conference attracted attendees from as far away as the United States.
The exhibit is up in the museum until Jan. 14.
