Farm Credit Canada and Parrish and Heimbecker, Ltd. presented cheques for $8,000 and $12,000 to the Food Banks of Saskatchewan Sept. 20 to kick off the FCC's Drive Away Hunger campaign.

The campaign, which began Sept. 19 and runs until Oct. 14, aims to raise one million pounds of food for the food bank. The program began in 2004 when an FCC employee in Ontario drove an open-cab tractor and trailer through rural Ontario for eight days to raise money for local food banks. Since then, it has raised over 5.2 million pounds of food for Canadian food banks.

Last year alone, the program surpassed its goals by almost double by raising 1.7 million pounds of food nation-wide. This year, the program hopes to raise one million pounds of food.

Donations of cash or nonperishable food items can be left at any FCC office in the province for the duration of the campaign.
