The City of North Battleford is again encouraging residents to recycle their trees following the holiday season.

In a news release, the City says their facilities will be able to recycle trees into chips for mulch, which can then be used in tree and shrub beds. The mulch improves growth by retaining moisture and suppressing the growth of weeds.

This year, though, the City notes it is no longer conducting back alley Christmas tree pickup, due to a decrease in the number of residents using real Christmas trees. However, they do offer two drop-off locations in the city.

The first is the Parks and Recreation Shop at 11202 - 8th Ave. during regular business hours. The other is the waste management facility on the east side, during regular business hours.

The Town of Battleford will have an area beside the recycling bin station adjacent to 4th Avenue available for residents to drop off their trees.

Those dropping trees off are reminded it is important for all lights, string, wire, ornaments, tinsel, fake snow and bags to be removed before recycling. Any materials left on trees could damage City equipment and end up mixed in the mulch, making the mulch less useful.
