A man accused of drug trafficking and other charges has been sentenced in North Battleford Provincial Court.

RCMP have confirmed that Rueben James Ehikhamen, 26, was sentenced to three years in the federal penitentiary on several charges: possession for the purpose of trafficking marijuana, possession of a controlled substance - psilocybin mushrooms, possession of a firearm knowing the serial number had been removed, possession of proceeds of crime - Canadian currency exceeding $5,000 and breach of a undertaking.

In addition to the jail sentence Ehikhamen received a lifetime firearms prohibition. He was sentenced Tuesday.

His sentencing was the result of an RCMP March 19 drug investigation. He was investigated for drug trafficking and a search warrant was executed.

According to police, the search recovered approximately 20 pounds of marijuana, a substantial amount of cash, a 40 calibre Smith and Wesson pistol, a crossbow, a small amount of identified controlled substances, packaging material and two safes.

Ehikhamen had also previously been sentenced in connection to drug trafficking charges at Merritt, B.C. in September.

All Ehikhamen's sentences are running concurrently.
