As a result of an ongoing investigation, the Prince Albert Crime Reduction Team arrested two men and three women in a vehicle at a Shell gas station near Wakaw Thursday, according to a press release. The team, with the assistance of the Melfort RCMP and Prince Albert Integrated Street Enforcement Team, also executed a search warrant at a home on Stovel Avenue in Melfort.

As a result of the arrests and subsequent search, 29 grams of suspected methamphetamine, other drug paraphernalia and a replica handgun were seized.

Barkley Swenson, 45, is charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking,

Swenson has been remanded into custody, to appear in Melfort Provincial Court on Feb. 6.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and further charges may be forthcoming.

The Saskatchewan RCMP has two Crime Reduction Teams operating in the province. Their mandate is to overtly target known criminals, prolific offenders and repeat offenders to reduce crime and make Saskatchewan safer. The two teams, based out of North Battleford and Prince Albert, are completely mobile and travel to areas that require assistance where community safety has been identified as a concern.
