Dumpster fires continue to be a nuisance for North Battleford Fire and Emergency Services.

In the monthly fire activities report for October 2011, presented to the City's Municipal Services Committee Monday night, fire chief Pat MacIsaac reported eight dumpster fires in October - up from two in September.

That brings the total number of dumpster fires in 2011 to 39 compared to 21 for the same period in 2010.

There were also four structure fires in October, a concern for fire officials, who consider structure fires preventable.

Firefighting activities are well up for the year with 401 calls compared to 295 through October 2010.
