STARS air ambulance was called in to help search for an elderly man in a heavily bushed area near Sweet Grass First Nation Tuesday, Sept. 8.

The 89-year-old man was reported missing by his family at about 8:45 p.m. Battlefords RCMP say the family last saw the man at 10 a.m. when he left to go hunting.

According to police, family members became increasingly concerned as the day turned to evening and called the Battlefords RCMP detachment to report him missing.

Patrols of the area were conducted, but due to recent rains and dense brush some roads and trails were impassable. The detachment contacted STARS in Saskatoon asking for assistance. Within an hour the STARS helicopter could be seen in the sky over the Battlefords.

STARS located the man northeast of the Sweetgrass at approximately 2:35 a.m. and loaded him onto the helicopter asking for a police officer to meet them at the North Battleford Airport. He was assessed and released from care in good medical condition.

Battlefords RCMP express appreciation to the STARS team for their assistance.
