Money continues to roll in for the Credit Union CUPlex, with the local Elks Lodge the latest to step up to the plate.

The Elks announced Thursday a pledge of $50,000 going towards the reception area for the aquatic centre.

Zonie Krawchuk, secretary treasurer with the North Battleford Elks Lodge No. 369, explained that it made sense for them to earmark the funds to the aquatic centre.

"We wanted to be visible in what we wanted to donate to," said Krawchuk.

He also pointed to the Elks' tradition of helping children as another reason for choosing the aquatic centre, as children will likely heavily utilize the facility.

He said the Elks also plan to sponsor some swimming programs in the new facility once it is up and running.

Members of the Elks officially made the donation announcement at the RBC Tower. On hand for the announcement were co-chairs Heath Gabruch and Rob Rongve.

In addition, a number of other donations were announced in the past week.

Dave and Eunice Eckel came forward to purchase two seats in the Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts and three janitorial rooms, one each in the curling centre, aquatic centre and field house, for a total donation of $5,000.

Other recent contributors, who purchased seats, include: $2,000 donations for two seats each from Ian and Kathy McNinch. Roy and Donna Challis and Roman and Diane Waines; $1,000 for one seat each for Dorothy and Bob Horrell, Don and Sandra Backus, Len and Cheryl Taylor and Olive and Wally Mills.

The fundraising campaign is past the $7.5 million mark and the progress of the campaign can be found at www.raisetheroofbattlefords.com.
