The Humboldt Emergency Services Charity Golf Tournament had another successful, if slower, year.

In total, 84 golfers came out to the Texas Scramble four golfer best ball tournament for causes all across Humboldt and area.

David Mortensen with Humboldt EMS says that  they are very happy with the $2000 raised that will be spread between local organizations, usually to help children. In the past, they have given to the spray park, skate park, and Big Brothers Big Sisters to name few.

“We don’t make a big amount of money but we’re always able to donate to some local places. We always find a means for it.”

Humboldt and District Ambulance Services, the Humboldt RCMP detachment, and the Humboldt Fire Department all pitched in to help, from collecting prizes to flipping burgers. This year they were also joined by the CN Rail Police Service who are just starting to get their feet wet, says Mortensen.

Humboldt Fire Department Chief, Mike Kwasnica, says they will be looking at what needs to be done in the community before deciding where this years fundraising efforts are going to go.

This event works in two ways. Beyond raising money for worthwhile causes, this is also a time that the four services within Humboldt get to socialize with each other.

“We don’t get to do that too often so it’s nice have an atmosphere where we can sit around and talk,” says Mortensen.

Beyond meeting up to tackle an emergency situation, the four services do not really have the opportunity to meet up in a social atmosphere, says Kwasnica. Events like this give them that, he says.

Besides raising money, Mortensen says they also wanted to make sure people had a great time and they pulled that off with Mortensen hearing many compliments on the day.

“Lots of people had smiles on their faces and thanked us for putting on such a nice golf tournament and we were really proud the 84 that came out seemed to enjoy themselves.”

Mortensen would also like to thank all the sponsors and donors that made the day extra special with draw items, the golfers who took time off work to spend the day golfing, volunteers, and the Humboldt Golf Club who Mortensen says was very good to them this year and helped them out a lot.

The next Humboldt Emergency Services fundraiser will be the gala event that will take place in March of 2017.
