The Humboldt Emergency Services held their annual fundraiser event last Saturday and it was another raging success. Represented that evening were the Humboldt Fire Department, the RCMP, and the Ambulance Service.
“It went really well,” said fire chief Mike Kwasnica. “We don’t have a total yet of what we made out for, but we had a sell out crowd and everybody had fun.”
As usual, the band playing that night was The Capitals. There was a door prize and raffled and auctioned prizes that included the infamous beer wagon (donated by JayDee AgTech), which was won by staff sergeant Phil Wilson. For the silent auction, prizes included a chainsaw by KMK Sales Ltd., a Glen Scrimshaw print, an Elite Salon & Spa package, and a Robert Bateman print. They had 33 donation items all together.
According to Kwasnica, a portion of this year’s proceeds will go towards the three elementary schools for their playgrounds and the rest will go towards their equipment fund. Last year, the money from that fund went towards the fire department’s new heat scanner and a new quad, which any of the emergency services can use.
Besides the donations, there were also the usual awards and recognition to be handed out, including the annual Firefighter of the Year award and the firefighter service awards. This year’s Firefighter of the Year was awarded to Braeden Campbell not just for his dedicated service, but also for his perfect attendance at the biweekly practices.
