Extensive damage to group home

A preliminary investigation is under way into a fire at a group home at 1352 - 97th St. According to North Battleford Fire, it was a structure fire with major damage to the interior. The incident took place around 11:30 p.m. Saturday night.

A preliminary investigation is under way into a fire at a group home at 1352 - 97th St.

According to North Battleford Fire, it was a structure fire with major damage to the interior.

The incident took place around 11:30 p.m. Saturday night.

The fire department responded with three pumpers and 14 firefighters and were on the scene for close to three hours. Also responding were RCMP, WPD Ambulance, SaskEnergy, SaskPower, and North Battleford Works Department.

According to Fire Chief Albert Headrick, the exact area of origin has not been determined, but the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Most of the damage was smoke damage. The amount of damage remains unknown.   

The building did have working smoke alarms and those were activated. The fire chief adds that the two occupants followed their Fire Safety plan by leaving the residence and calling 911. There were no injuries.
