Enrolment down in Horizon Schools

There are 79 fewer children enrolled in schools in the Horizon School Division this year than there were last year. Enrolment in the Division dropped by 73 students, from 6,442 in 2011-12 to 6,363 in 2012-13, as of September 30. This is the second year in a row that enrolment has dropped. The all-time enrolment high in the division was recorded in 2007, with 6,658 students in division schools. Some schools did record increases in their student population this year. Schools in Watson, Drake and Raymore saw 13-student increases, and St. Brieux's enrolment went up by 14 students. The George Gordon Education Centre (K-8) enrolment went up by 18 students and Punnichy Community High's student population went up by 22 students. Humboldt Collegiate Institute (HCI) had one of the biggest decreases in enrolment, losing 15 students from last year. Kelvington and Punnichy's enrolment also went down by 15. Enrolment at Quill Lake School went down by 16 students, as did that of Wakaw School. But Muenster and Wadena saw the biggest drops, with 17 fewer students this year that at this time last year.
