The Humboldt Summer Sizzler has officially been kicked off with the Sizzler Strut raising money for the community trails on June 10.

Around 80 runners and walkers came out to enjoy the kids run, five, and ten kilometre runs with runners starting at the Humboldt Vintage Club and taking to the community trails.

The Humboldt Wildlife Trail runs north from the vintage club with the trail ending along the railway tracks on Peck Road at the city limits.

The committee started around 2010 with the focus on establishing the trails, says Stacey Tremblay with the strut planning committee.

The trail is well established so funds raised will be going to maintaining and promoting the trails for people to use, says Megan Parker, another committee member.

The drive has changed a bit since the start, says Tremblay, but now the strut offers an up close look at what the trails provide for families to keep active.

This has been the second year where the strut has taken place on the trails, offering this first hand look.

As well as a bouncy castle, wall climbing, and other family events, the runs themselves were a family friendly affair with many young children taking to the trails to compete with their parents.

Father and daughter Curtis and Teagan Zazula finished first and second place in the 5km run with times being just under 26 minutes, while Kathy and Jayda Sandercock were shortly behind finishing in just under 27 minutes for third and fourth.

In the 10km race, Ward Nagy finished first with a time of just under 51 minutes and Roy Maki finished shortly after in just under 53 minutes.
