It is looking like a good start to the year for farmers. After high levels of moisture for the last few years, farmers are looking forward to seeding this spring. "The way things are shaping up, there is ample moisture to start a crop," said Allan Baumann from the RM of Three Lakes. "I am hoping that we get enough warm weather to start a crop here and there are good growing conditions throughout the year ."Baumann explained there has been enough moisture in the area over the last few weeks to help start the season and he hopes to start seeding in early May. He isn't the only farmer feeling optimistic this year. "I think there is optimism out there on behalf of farmers that we haven't seen in a number of years," said Jordon Bergermann from the RM of Humboldt. The moisture level is close to perfect for seeding this year. "I think moisture in our area is good, at least for a start," said local farmer Brian Wempe. "We are going to need more rain in the summer but for the start, I think we have good moisture." Bergermann is also happy with the moisture level. "We don't have to worry about acres too wet to seed this year, like we did in the last four or five years," said Bergermann. "I think that is a big plus so probably agriculture has maybe never looked as good as it does right now." It is not only moisture levels that are keeping farmers in good spirits. Rising grain prices also have them feeling good about the year. Baumann explained the prices are strong and many auctions farmers go to are selling equipment quickly and at high prices. "I think there is a lot more optimism this year than there has been in the past considering the strong prices and ample moisture," said Baumann.
