A 16-year-old woman is dead following a fatal collision at the junction of Highway 16 and 303 east of Lloydminster.
The incident happened during the evening of Saturday, Aug. 30. Around 7:05 p.m., Lloydminster and Maidstone RCMP were called to the scene of the collision involving a 2014 Hyundai Tiburon and a 2002 Pontiac Montana minivan.
The Tiburon had been heading north while the minivan was westbound, police say. Two occupants were in the minivan and there were three in the Tiburon.
All persons involved were transported to Lloydminster Hospital.
RCMP say the deceased was in the front passenger seat of the Tiburon. A 16-year-old male rear passenger from the Tiburon was transported to University of Alberta Hospital with critical injuries.
An RCMP traffic reconstructionist from Saskatoon attended the scene to determine the cause of the collision. Britannia Wilton Fire Deptartment and Lloydminster EMS were also on scene.
The investigation is continuing. Alcohol is believed to be a factor, and charges may be pending upon further investigation.
Next of kin have been notified but the name of the deceased or any others involved are not being released at this time.
The RCMP is also asking witnesses on scene and those who assisted prior to the arrival of emergency personnel call Maidstone RCMP to provide a statement.
