RCMP were at the scene of a fatal accident Thursday morning about 20 kilometres west of Hafford on highway 40.
A semi heading eastbound in poor weather conditions struck a westbound minivan, and an adult female travelling as a passenger in the minivan was declared dead at the scene. The accident, which was attended by WPD Ambulance along with fire departments from Speers and Hafford and the RCMP, also saw the 37-year-old driver of the minivan transported to BUH in stable condition.
The driver of the semi was treated and released with no injuries.
Emergency responders had requested the STARS air ambulance, but it was unable to respond because of weather conditions. Following the accident, the highway was closed and traffic was diverted, though it was opened later in the day.
