Three people from Mosquito First Nation are dead following a rollover near Highway 4 south of the Battlefords.
According to Battlefords Rural RCMP, a vehicle rolled and ended up partially submerged in a body of water. The incident happened around 3:16 a.m. Sunday about 30 km south of Battleford.
Police say one of the rear passengers was able to swim out the front window and summon help.
Upon arrival, the RCMP were able to locate an injured passenger but were unable initially to remove that occupant from the vehicle. Soon after, fire personnel were able to free the injured occupant when they winched the vehicle closer to shore.
Unfortunately, it was determined there were five occupants of the vehicle, a 2007 Ford Fusion, and that three had died. The driver was among the deceased.
The dead include one woman, Lee Oxebin, age 34, and two men, Patrick Sanderson, 45, and Wallie Mosquito, 28.
Of the two other passengers, one was described as having sustained non-life threatening injuries while the other's injuries were described as minor.
The incident remains under investigation.
