HUMBOLDT — A shining representation of the holiday spirit at the Humboldt campground has given a local organization a $1,000 boost.

The silver collection proceeds from the 2021-22 Festival of Lights, organized annually by the Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce, were donated to Safe Communities Humboldt and Area.

“Even with cold weather and lots of snow,” said Brent Fitzpatrick, the chamber's executive director, “our area has come out to support this great event.”

The donation also included the speaker's fee from Sean Willy of Des Nedhe, who spoke about First Nation investment at a chamber event in September. Willy asked the chamber to donate his speaker's fee to a local organization.

Brent Walker, the chamber's president, said he was pleased to donate the money to Safe Communities.

“This organization holds many events throughout the year to promote the safety and health of people of every age in our communities.”

Since its inception more than a decade ago, the Festival of Lights has generated more than $25,000, which has been given to non-profit organizations in the region
