EAST CENTRAL — The last day of school has been set by the Horizon School Division.

Tuesday, June 16 will be the final day for teacher-directed supplemental learning.

Students will have until Tuesday, June 23 to complete any remaining assignments and submit their work for grading.

“We encourage students and families to continue their engagement with teacher-directed supplemental learning right up to June 16, and complete any and all requirements from their teachers up to June 23,” said a letter to parents signed by Kevin Garinger, the division’s director of education, and Jim Hack, the board of education chair.

The letter thanked parents and students for their efforts to make learning at a distance a successful experience.

“Our students, families, teachers, support staff and Horizon personnel have done a commendable job working and learning through these historic challenges,” the letter said. “This difficult situation has affected every family in unique ways and yet we have faced these challenges and ensured our students, your children, continue to have access to opportunities for learning and other supports.”

Teachers and division staff will plan for three scenarios in the fall: a full return to the physical classroom, a partial or modified return, or fully online learning.

“We do not yet know how this pandemic will develop in the weeks and months ahead,” the letter said. “We do not yet know exactly how this will affect our educational services in the fall.

The school division will also survey parents, students and staff over the coming week using their online Thoughtexchange tool so they can learn what kind of obstacles they faced with supplemental learning and give ideas for improvement.
