North Battleford will be getting a new fire chief.
Fire Chief Pat MacIsaac resigned from the position last week. The announcement was made Dec. 7.
"I have left the position of fire chief with the City of North Battleford," said MacIsaac in a statement.
"I resigned and am moving on to new opportunities. I have very much enjoyed my tenure as fire chief and am very appreciative to the City for all the opportunities it has provided me and my family. The City is fortunate to have the quality and calibre of staff that it does."
MacIsaac arrived from Manitoba to take over as chief four years ago, having come off a stint as deputy fire chief/paramedic chief in Thompson.
He assumed the fire chief's role under what was difficult circumstances for North Battleford Fire and Emergency Services, following the death of former Fire Chief Mike Saunders.
During MacIsaac's tenure, North Battleford Fire and Emergency Services battled two massive blazes that required the full resources of the department: the massive grass fire west of North Battleford that threatened the city's Killdeer neighbourhood in 2011 and the massive blaze at the "Jesus is Alive" building in March, 2012.
He also led the department through two major emergencies in the city: the major flooding of July 2010 and the wind storm of June 2012 that knocked down trees and power all over the city.
At City Hall Monday night there was no comment made of the Fire Chief's resignation, but his absence was notable at the meeting as his usual seat was filled by Deputy Fire Chief Brian Wilson. It is expected the search for a replacement will begin this week.
