City Council has received flak about inconsistent application of their demolition policy before, but a local property owner's letter was dealt with even before it was received by city council July 23.
The letter, from Jim LaFreniere, asked what council had planned for the building at 1582 - 102nd St. The building had been extensively damaged in a fire in October 2011, and LaFreniere had heard the owner was planning to rebuild the following year. The demolition of the building had been delayed to allow this.
Writing that "some situations like this are dealt with swiftly and others are allowed to slip through the system unnoticed," LaFreniere remarked that a burnt building dramatically reduces surrounding property values and requested the City approve the demolition of the building.
Thankfully for LaFreniere, the building had been demolished earlier in the day of the council meeting.
