North Battleford Fire and Emergency Services will resume testing fire hydrants in areas where water lines were flushed in early June.

Those areas are Riverview, Parsons Industrial Park, east of 106th Street, Fairview Heights, and Kildeer Park. Testing resumed in Riverview starting Monday, July 15. That is according to a news release issued by the city Monday.

Testing the hydrants allows NBFES to not only verify that each hydrant is able to physically open and close, but allows them to check water flow rates to ensure adequate water can be obtained in emergencies. It also is an opportunity for firefighters to familiarise themselves with hydrant locations across North Battleford. ??

The fire department is able to resume testing now that Water Treatment Plant No. 1 is running at full capacity again.

The City says residents in testing zones could experience minor discolouration of water during the process. However, because these water mains were recently flushed, discoloration will likely be very minimal. The city reports the water is safe. ?

The fire department also intends to ensure adequate water supply by staying in touch with the Department of Public Works and Engineering throughout the process.
