MELFORT — While it ended up being an imitation firearm that was pointed at an incident at the Melfort Exhibition, one Tisdale-area male is being charged with seven firearm-related offences.

According to the Criminal Code, if an imitation firearm is used in a manner that makes people believe it is a real weapon, somebody can be charged with same offence as if it were real.

The 15-year-old male, who can’t be named due to the youth criminal justice act, is charged with use of a firearm in the commission of an offence, careless use of a firearm, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, assault with a weapon and possession of a firearm while prohibited.

He’s also charged with two counts of breach of probation and one count of resisting arrest.

The incident happened July 20 at around 7:50 p.m. The police responded to a complaint of a male at the fair with what appeared to be a firearm. An altercation took place between the male and three females.

The 15-year-old will appear in Melfort Provincial Court July 24.
