A man facing several firearms and threat-related charges will return to court March 26.
Arlo McDermott, 29, is charged in connection to an incident at a home near North Battleford Sunday at around 4:20 a.m. The incident was initially thought to be a possible hostage taking involving a number of individuals at the residence.
Battlefords Municipal and Rural RCMP detachments established aperimeter around the home. Members entered and arrested McDermott, with a firearm and other weapons seized from the scene.
McDermott is charged with using a firearm while attempting assault and uttering threats, pointing a firearm, carrying a weapon for a purpose dangerous to public peace, two counts of uttering threats, unauthorized possession of a firearm, assault and mischief.
He appeared in court both Monday and Tuesday morning and has been vocal in protesting his innocence. He said from the prisoner box the reason he was arrested was "because I'm Indian" during his appearance Monday.
McDermott remains in custody.
