A man arrested following a firearms-brandishing incident on Poundmaker First Nation has been released, on strict conditions.

Arnold Pete appeared in provincial court Thursday morning before Judge Dan O'Hanlon in North Battleford. Pete is charged with unauthorized possession, careless use and pointing of a firearm, as well as two uttering threats charges, in connection to a confrontation with his common-law wife at a residence on Poundmaker First Nation in late December.

Thursday, O'Hanlon ruled Pete could be released, but under strict conditions that will include electronic monitoring. Pete must receive written permission to leave his residence and must abide by a daily curfew as part of the conditions he must follow. As well, he must stay away from alcohol and nonprescription drugs and from bars and liquor stores. Pete is also not being allowed to possess a firearm or weapons and cannot reside at a residence where those are present, among other conditions.

A no-contact order was also issued with respect to Pete's interaction with the victim and witnesses in the case. Violation of any conditions would put Pete back in custody.

Pete's next court appearance is set for Jan. 18 in Cut Knife Provincial Court.
