North Battleford council has now passed both a bylaw and also an amended rate schedule in connection to waste management fees.
Third and final reading was given to a bylaw setting residential refuse collection and recycling rates at $9 for refuse collection and removal and $6 for recycling.
The rates had been discussed at length and approved during the recent budget process. Third reading passed unanimously. Councillors Trent Houk and Greg Lightfoot were not present at the meeting.
As well, a resolution was passed to amend the schedule of fees that are part of another bylaw, to reflect the new waste management fees with changes effective April 1.
Among the highlights: the rate for unsorted waste is set at $114 per tonne, and there is an entrance fee of $5. However, there will be a 33 per cent discount for North Battleford residents who show identification.
The discount is being set a little higher than the 30 per cent approved by council during the budget approval process. The resolution to amend the fee schedule carried unanimously.
More information on the fees can be obtained at the City website at www.cityofnb.ca/living/garbage.html.
