Five area villages going to the polls in municipal elections

October 24 will see residents of only five villages in the Humboldt district heading to the polls to elect a new mayor and/or councillors.Those villages are Muenster, Meacham, Jansen, Pilger and Spalding.

October 24 will see residents of only five villages in the Humboldt district heading to the polls to elect a new mayor and/or councillors.Those villages are Muenster, Meacham, Jansen, Pilger and Spalding.In Muenster, two candidates have stepped up to run against incumbent mayor Benno Korte: Pierre April and Reva Bauer.Five candidates will be running for four positions on Muenster's town council: incumbents Bob Bergermann, Dick Blechinger, David Hogemann, James Wasserman and a new name on the list, Rehman Khan.Perry Thiessen has been the mayor of Meacham for over 20 years, but decided not to run for another term. Meacham resident Flo Frank will be the village's new mayor by acclamation.Two new faces will be running for the two council seats against incumbents Marion Carlson and Harley Leniuk. They are Jim Phillips and Robert Pearman.In the village of Jansen, a new council position has been added, bringing the number to three. Four candidates are running for the three positions: incumbent Elmer Kinzel, and newcomers Chris Bolton, Charles Jones and Kathy Jones. Albert Cardinal retains his mayoralcy by acclamation.Pilger may see some changes this year as well. Incumbent Joyce Bauer has Ardean Bregenser running against her for mayor. Three villagers will sit on Pilger's council, elected by acclamation: incumbents Bernard Dobmeier and Gloria Struck will be joined by newcomer Edward Thoms.In the village of Spalding, alderman Richelle Beaudry will be taking over as mayor by acclamation. Incumbent mayor Norman Foushe decided not to run as mayor but instead will be running for council along with several new faces: Marilyn Pigula, Troy Hrisook, Wayne Thompson, George VanDeWiele and Eldon Maryniak.No electionsFor the villages of Annaheim, Lake Lenore, Quill Lake, St. Gregor and Viscount, there will be no elections as those nominated have been elected by acclamation.Annaheim is keeping Mayor Donald Willenborg for another term. Incumbents Renée Peake and Dave Niekamp will be joined by newcomers Dennis Robinson and Gerard Doepker to fill the four aldermen positions on the village's council.The mayor of Lake Lenore, Scott Lessmeister, is re-elected by acclamation, as are the four incumbent councillors: Travis Thompson, Hilde Yeager, Tim Prodahl, and Lee Poppl.Former Quill Lake councillor Robert Benjamin will be taking over from Lyle Thibault as the village's new mayor.Thibault will stay on as councillor, joining incumbents Linda Ingram, Guy Martin and Keith Thiessen, all elected by acclamation.A minor change to St. Gregor's town council is the addition by acclamation of Gordon Severinsen, who will take over for councillor Glenn Taphorn. Jordy McNall retains his place on council, and Doug Hogemann is set to serve a new term as the village's mayor. In Viscount, former Mayor Moe Kirzinger and councillors Armand Clavelle, Dale Wagner, Angie Anderson and Melissa Dieno were all elected by acclamation. In the villages of Englefeld and Plunkett, there will be no changes to the current mayor and council members.Englefeld's mayor, Darrell Athmer, and councillors Arden Herman, Lloyd Knafelc, Roman Zimmerman and Hal Carnago were all elected by acclamation.Plunkett retains Richard Hayes as mayor, and Lyle Phillips and William Weeks are the village's two councillors. All three were elected by acclamation.
