North Battleford city officials are defending themselves against news reports implying the flag corridor in Coronation Park does not meet accepted protocol.

"Contrary to recent press coverage," according to Parks and Recreation Director Keith Anderson's Oct. 18 city memo, "please be assured that the new flag corridor in Coronation Park is installed correctly and according to federal protocol."

According to Anderson the protocol office was contacted prior to the installation so the flag order and height could be verified, and said the flag pole bases were surveyed in and all are according to accepted protocol.

He added that the park "has a huge variation in topography and depending upon where you view the flags from or take the picture from, flag height seems to be incorrect. This is not the case but is an illusion created by the topography."
