There were flowers back in Maidstone just in time for Valentine's Day.

Desirae Blanchette purchased the former flower and gift shop on Main Street in September and spent four months working hard to completely renovate the building. The result is a big, bright, classy and modern salon and new home to the Curl Up and Dye Shop, which was formerly located in the Maidstone mall.

There are three stylists and a selection of salon products available along with a comfortable waiting area. The new salon opened at the beginning of January and on Feb. 11 they held the grand opening of Petal Pushers, the flower department of the shop.

The flowers arrived just a couple of days before and were waiting and ready in the cooler for the romantic rush, selling out by the afternoon of Feb. 14. Roses, carnations, gerbera daisies and more filled the cooler with beautiful sights and smells.

Blanchette took an on-line floral design course to prepare for her new venture and is excited to try something new, hoping it works out better than the clothing store she attached to the salon in the last location.

"I think it will be nice with the flowers, they were well established in town already," she said.
