Battlefords and Area MADD chapter have launched their annual Project Red Ribbon, a campaign designed to combat impaired driving during the holidays.

Working with area businesses, MADD members are asking residents of Battlefords and area to tie a MADD Canada red ribbon to their vehicles, key chains, purses, briefcases or backpacks. Campaign organizers say the ribbon is a symbol of the person's commitment to drive safely and soberly during the holiday season and throughout the year. The ribbon also serves as a reminder to other motorists to drive sober.

Every day, an average four Canadians are killed and 190 more are injured due to alcohol and drug related crashes. MADD Canada chapters and community leaders work with community partners, sponsors and the public to stop impaired driving and support victims.

This is the 24th anniversary of Project Red Ribbon. MADD Canada's longest running and most identifiable awareness campaign runs from now until the first Monday after New Year's Day.
