Today CBI Health Centre, with help from Lawrence School, Bready School (Better Together) and the Battlefords Gymnastics Club will be in different areas within North Battleford dropping off yellow Frazer’s No Frills bags for an annual food drive for the Battlefords District Food and Resource Centre. Executive Director Erin Katerynych says, “It is our hope everyone will participate and donate food to fill the bag and put it back on their doorstep. On Thursday, May 30, the groups will be back out to pick up the filled bags of food. May is one of our busiest months in the year. Last year in May we handed out 767 hampers, helping 2447 people. Almost half of those were children and it looks to be about the same again this May. Spring and summer are also when donations to the food bank drop. The Battlefords District Food and Resource Centre has had to cut back on the perishable food items in the hampers because we don’t have enough to meet the demand in the community.” She adds, “Hunger does not take a summer holiday. Our goal is to bring in enough food to help us throughout the spring and summer season.” In the photo is Mikeal Bird from Lawrence School holding up a bag that will be dropped off a residences throughout the city.
