A free income tax clinic is being offered for those who are low income at Battlefords District Food and Resource Centre.
It is taking place Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 1-3 p.m. during March and April. It is running on a walk-in-only and first-come-first-served basis.
These clinics are hosted by community organizations across Canada through the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program. People may be eligible if they have a modest income and a simple tax situation.
You are eligible if your family size is one person and less than $35,000, for two people is is under $45,000, three people under $47,500, four people $50,000, five people $52,500 and over five $52,500 plus $2,500 for each additional person.
Your tax situation is considered simple if you have no income or if your income comes from: employment, pension benefits such as the Canada Pension Plan, disability insurance, employment insurance, and social assistance, registered retirement savings plans (RRSPs), support payments, scholarships, fellowships, bursaries or grants, and interest (under $1,000).
Your tax situation is considered not simple if you are self-employed or have employment expenses, have business or rental income and expenses, have capital gains or losses, filed for bankruptcy during the tax year (or the year before, if that return has not yet been filed), or are completing a tax return for a deceased person.
Last year the free clinics helped over 670 families file their income tax here in the Battlefords.
