EAST CENTRAL — The provincial government has announced its annual funding for regional colleges with $24.2 million being approved for skills training at the eight Saskatchewan colleges.
College-level courses and the adult basic education and language programs are essential for filling labour market needs across the province and helps students develop employment skills and workplace experience.
“We want to see more people actively engaged in the workforce, which benefits individuals, families, and communities right across our province,” said Immigration and Career Training Minister Jeremy Harrison in the Sept. 21 press release. “The programs our regional colleges will deliver with this funding, from basic skills programs to language training, will support individuals as they pursue further education and move into employment opportunities in Saskatchewan.”
Carlton Trail College has been approved for $1.9 million in annual funding, which will go towards ongoing training and education, said Carlton Trail College President and CEO Shelley Romanyszyn-Cross.
“This funding will help Carlton Trail College continue its commitment to reskill and upskill future workers to meet Saskatchewan’s evolving labour market demands.”
This funding will go towards all their credited programs from practical nursing to Saskatchewan Polytechnic classes and adult education. The funding allocation has always been welcome throughout the years, especially this year with COVID difficulties changing the way education is presented.
“It's critical for us to continue to support and meet the regional needs of our learners, our community, and our stakeholders. We were very pleased to get this allocation.”
Regional college funding is provided through both the Government of Saskatchewan and the Ministry of Education and financial stability now ensured with the Sept. 21 announcement.
