It was a way to thank donors, but also a way to show off their facility at the Humboldt Community Gathering Place Open House on April 25.

Board member Fran Gasmo-Bremner says a lot of work went into funding recent projects at the Gathering Place, including renovations to the entryway and basement at the facility.

“We’ve done so much and I just get so excited for everything that we’ve done.,” says Gasmo-Bremner.

Renovation work started with former manager Marie-Louise Ternier-Gommers and grant writing to get funding for many of the projects.

Local organizations have also given to the Gathering Place with Gasmo-Bremner saying they are very grateful for financial assistance from the Good Neighbour Store, Nutrien Lanigan, and Kinettes.

“Local businesses have donated. You ask and they give us different things which is really nice.”

Despite the work that has already been done, Gasmo-Bremner says there is still a long list of things they want done, including some painting work and improvements to their flooring in the upper level.

“I think this is the only original wood floor in Humboldt and we don’t want to give that up.”

Since being transformed from the Humboldt Seniors facility into becoming the Community Gathering Place the facility has opened up for many different rentals, including weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, and other parties, as well as seniors meetings, the community soup kitchen gatherings, and fitness sessions.

Administrator Glenda Frey says the facility is well used by the community and they always appreciate the community support.
