Some more information has been released about BridgeFest, the day-long party designed to spur pride and a feeling of belonging in the Battlefords.

The celebration will take place at the Battleford flats Aug. 25, with all of the events and attractions in close proximity to the stage.

The day will feature activities, starting at 8 a.m. at Finlayson Island with a children's one kilometre run. The five 21 kilometre runs for adults will start 30 minutes later.

At 9 a.m., the party will really get started with a pancake breakfast and the start of the entertainment. Both will run until 11 a.m.

Following the first two events, family entertainment will run from 11 to 4 p.m., with entertainment for teenagers starting at 2 p.m. The beer gardens will also open around noon.

Entertainment will continue through the afternoon, and closing ceremonies and fireworks will take place from 9 to 9:30 p.m. Following the fireworks, the headliner, who has not yet been announced, will take the stage until 11 p.m.

Throughout the day, participants of all ages will have things to do. For children, there will be four jump tents operated by Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the Battlefords Agricultural Society will sponsor a petting zoo. The AAA Sharks will also be sponsoring a shootout competition.

For older participants, there will be a marketplace looked after by Battlefords Residential Services, slo-pitch and beach volleyball tournaments and a vintage car show. Teams interested in competing in either sports tournament are being advised to register early, as spots will fill up quickly. Participants are sure to be well-fed, as the popular Lions pig roast is returning this year.

Interested seniors will have transportation provided, with pick-ups organized between 8 a.m. and noon at Valleyview Towers, Meadowsweet Manor, Golden Years Lodge, River Heights Lodge, Harwood Manor and Villa Pascal.
