A three-year-old girl is dead following an attack by dogs on the Mosquito First Nation reserve.

RCMP and ambulance responded to a 911 call just before 7 p.m. Sunday night, Aug. 21, about a girl being injured by dogs on the reserve. Mosquito First Nation is located south of North Battleford.

The three-year-old victim had suffered substantial injuries, according to police, and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at Battlefords Union Hospital in North Battleford.

Police say that based on their investigation, the child had wandered into a nearby yard area where she encountered two dogs and was subsequently attacked. The dogs were destroyed by their owner following the incident.

RCMP say Mosquito First Nation is not known to have previous dangerous dog problems. Police do not plan on criminal charges.
