Glaslyn arena will be upgraded after the announcement this week of funding through the federal government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund.
The CIF investment of $40,150 will go towards the reinforcement of the overhead support beams in the rink with steel, as well as upgrades to other interior structural components. These improvements will make the multi-season rink safer and increase its longevity.
"The Village of Glaslyn is very excited to be receiving this funding," said Glaslyn mayor Ken Morrison. "Being able to do these structural repairs will extend the life of the arena well into the future ensuring recreation for years to come. The arena is a vital part of our small community."
Member of Parliament for Battlefords-Lloydminster and Minister of Agriculture Gerry Ritz, on behalf of Lynne Yelich, minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, was in Glaslyn for the announcement.
"Our government is committed to creating jobs, growth and long-term prosperity in our communities," said Ritz. "By improving facilities such as Glaslyn's arena, we are boosting economic activity and ensuring that this facility is enjoyed by the community for years to come."
The CIF supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
