The damage was minimal and not much was stolen but Good Neighbour Store staff are still puzzled over someone breaking into their store.

The Humboldt RCMP reported that between March 18 and March 19  the building was broken into with vandals breaking an east facing window.

Vandals then proceeded to set off fire extinguishers in the store’s sorting room which also set off the smoke detectors.

Sue Young, Good Neighbour Store Coordinator says that their computer as well as some other electronics were stolen as well as a tin of cookies.

A passer by saw the broken window and heard the alarm and then called the RCMP.

Good Neighbour Store tresurer Sylvia Koski says it took staff 21 hours to clean up the mess left by the vandals with the spray foam getting into some open boxes.

“It’s like drywall dust,” says Young, “it just gets into every little thing. It was a real mess.”

The biggest question from people in town is why, says Koski, with all their charity work and volunteers.

“Everybody’s really disappointed,” she says.

For Young, it is insulting.

“It’s just rude and senseless,” she says.

Young says they are hoping someone can come forward with information regarding the crime.

“If anyone saw anything remotely of interest between Sunday night and Monday morning, report it. It’ll give the police something to go by.”

Young says they will be talking about what more can be done to secure the building.
