Battleford Fire Department responded quickly to a grass fire at the east end of 25th Street Sunday.
The blaze started at about 3 p.m. Alert citizens dialed 911 and the flames were out within minutes of the fire truck's arrival.
The area of brush along the town's walking trail is tinder dry after a winter with little snow. Quick action saved the flames from being fanned by the winds and spreading into nearby trees and homes.
