North Battleford Fire Department spent several hours responding to a grassfire east of the city on Friday.

According to the fire department’s news release, they received a call around 2:44 pm on Friday afternoon about a fire 24 km east of North Battleford on highway 40, in the RM of North Battleford.

Approximately two to three acres of grass and bush had burnt in the blaze, along with a small empty grain bin.

The fire department reports that their crews were able to contain the blaze and a local farmer plowed a fire break around the bush so as to contain the blaze to the bush area, with no threat to the rest of the property.

The cause of the blaze was determined to be due to the owner burning cardboard/paper near the bush, which got out of control.

Three apparatus and ten personnel from North Battleford Fire Department were on the scene for seven hours and 17 minutes. No injuries were reported.
