This was the scene Tuesday morning as emergency crews fought to bring under control a grassfire that broke out east of the city on Wearing Road. Crews were on the scene over five hours before they were able to put out the five-acre-wide blaze.

A large grass and bush fire filled the sky with smoke to the east of North Battleford on Tuesday.

North Battleford Fire and Emergency Services sent five apparatus and 12 personnel to fight the blaze for five-and-a-half hours on Tuesday, beginning shortly before 10 am.

Approximately five acres of land was involved in the fire, located about two miles east of the city. Two pumpers, a half-ton grass fire unit and a water tanker were used to bring the fire under control.

Also on the scene were WPD Ambulance, the RCMP and North Battleford Special Constables, who blocked the road to traffic while firefighters were fighting the blaze. No injuries were reported.
