Habitat trust has record breaking year

"Wildlife lands" means just that, lands that are bought and set aside for wildlife habitat. We as conservationists must do our best at preserving some of the natural habitat we have in our backyard.

"Wildlife lands" means just that, lands that are bought and set aside for wildlife habitat.

We as conservationists must do our best at preserving some of the natural habitat we have in our backyard.

This year was one of the best the Habitat Trust Fund of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation has had in 33 years. The total number of acres that were secured for wildlife was an astounding 1,476 acres. The members and branches of the SWF can be proud of this accomplishment.

Region 2 of the SWF was part of this record year by securing three parcels of land in the RM of Meeting Lake. The total number of acres secured in this purchase was 480. This is a parcel of land that will be maintained and protected for all sportsman to enjoy. The future of the wildlife depends on such land acquisitions.

This deal would have not been possible if not for the generosity of a few branches of Region 2. These branches went above and beyond to preserve some of our natural habitat. Hats off to these branches for donating the following sums of money: Battlefords Wildlife Federation $15,000; Lloydminster Fish and Game League $10,000; Saskatoon Wildlife Federation $5,000; Witchegan Wildlife Federation $2,500; Macklin Wildlife Federation $2,000; Thickwood Hills Wildlife Federation, $1,000; Dorintosh Willdife Fredration $1,000 (total $36,500).

A special thank you goes out to Nature Conservancy of Canada. Their partnership in this venture was a first for the Habitat Trust Fund and hopefully the start of a new relationship and partnership for preserving natural habitat. Thank you to Larry Gaburch and Carmen Liebel for all your hard work and dedication to securing land for wildlife and future generations to enjoy.

To all conservationists, please continue to protect and preserve our wildlife and habitat. If you see someone abusing these lands or the wildlife pick up the phone and report the abusers-1-800-667-7561 or from your cell #5555.

Thank you to all the branches of Region 2 for supporting me this past year and we'll see ya all next year, walkin' the wildlife trail.
