The Hafford centennial committee has been working diligently planning for the Rural Municipality of Redberry and Town of Hafford's centennial celebrations in 2013. As part of the process, the committee decided to host a logo contest among the students of Hafford Central School.

Two pieces of artwork were selected as the winning entries. The selection included one that was created by Michael Herman, Grade 11 student, and the other by Brittany Attrux, Grade 10 student.

The committee appreciated highlights in both students' work, so the students were asked to work together and combine their winning selections to provide one logo. The students were successful in honouring the committee's wishes and designed a logo reflective of both the community and rural area.

" I remember when the Pioneer elevator was demolished," explained Michael, "I thought that having it in the logo would be a reminder of our pioneers."

Brittany felt incorporating the two pieces of artwork depicted a fair representation of the region. The water along the bottom of the logo represented Redberry Lake and the vibrant colours of orange, yellow and blue highlights the logo making it a complementary piece to letterhead and other potential creations.

Irene Attrux was extremely proud of the outcome from the contest, which had over 40 entries.

"It was a challenge for the committee to choose the winning selection," commented Irene. "All the submissions were well done and we thank the students for participating and the teachers for encouraging the students."

Irene indicated the logo will be used on all correspondence and letterhead. As well, a flag will be made for the centennial using the artwork. The students will receive recognition during the centennial banquet at the celebrations June 28 through July1.
